How does Chiropractic work, what is it? . . .

Chiropractic restores proper function to joints in the body or spine that are "stuck". It also allows the nervous system to function optimally! If you have a bone that is not in place, muscles will be spasm, nerves will be irriated, and joints will be inflamed. This will cause pain and other negative symptoms in the body. By putting that bone or bones precisely back into place with an adjustemt, you relieve those symptoms. You then have less pain and your nervous system is happy and your entire body works better! The power that made the body heals the body! We help unleash it!.

What are the benefits of Chiropractic? . . .

  • neck and low back pain relief
  • headache relief
  • increased mobility and range of motion
  • decreased stiffness and muscular spasms
  • arthritic joint pain relief
  • increased joint and disc health
  • increased performance and energy
  • decrease stress
  • decrease in inflammation
  • increased balance and coordination
  • reduced degeneration and risk of injury
  • increased healing and immune system support

What is an adjustment? . . .

The use of direct pressure to a specific joint in a precise vector, whether in the spine or in an extremity, in order to restore function, improve nervous sytem communication, and improve motion within that joint. Often times this relieves muscle spasm as well. The Doctor usually uses his hands to perform the adjustment and may employ the use of a table to assist in certain type of adjustments.

What's the noise or pop? . . .

The noise is caused by the release of nitrogen gas inside the joint. Each joint has a capsule that has a certain amount of pressure. When the pressure is released, similar to popping one’s knuckles, there is a sound. This is referred to as an "audible". Chiropractic is one of the fastest growing natural health care professions in the world! There are over 65,000 of us in the U.S.A and thousands of Doctors of Chiropractic graduating every year.

Who seeks out Chiropractic? . . .

Over 20 million people visit the Chiropractor every year. Doctors of Chiropractic receive extremely intense training, very similar to Medical Doctors (M.D's) and Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O's) to receive their degrees. The difference lies in the last two years of the training programs. M.D and D.O's have intense internships and rotations in clinics, hospitals and their respective colleges or universities, studying mostly sick patients, patients with severe health problems or people in need of surgery. They learn to diagnose many conditions and treat them, typically with the use of drugs, surgery and also their own personal recommendations. The biggest difference here is that Chiropractors (D.C's) spend their last years in a large Chiropractic office, usually affiliated and connected with their Chiropractic college. They learn and practice all different types of adjusting techniques, therapies, nutrition recommendations and exercises to ultimately help patients naturally. In addition, they receive extensive education on X-ray interpretation, MRI studies, and diagnosing many other conditions, besides the typical Musculo-Skeletal type complaints. This sets the Doctor of Chiropractic apart, in that he or she may help patients in their own office, or, when they feel appropriate, refer out to the proper specialist to co treat the patient, with the ultimate goal of helping the patient have a better quality of life!

Can it hurt me? . . .

The adjustment does not hurt, but muscles may be sore for a short time after the treatment. At Wellness In Motion we pride ourselves on performing safe, gentle, and effective adjustments!

Can I adjust myself? . . .

No. Some people can make their joints "pop," but that's not an adjustment! Worse, damage can occur by mobilizing a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are specific and take years to master. Even your chiropractic doctor must consult a colleague to benefit from chiropractic care.

Can I have Chiropractic care after surgery or fracture? . . .

Yes. Rest assured that your doctor of chiropractic will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. Surgery often causes instability above or below the involved levels. Often times these areas will be more likely to degenerate further and be weaker. These areas will often times be the focus of your chiropractic care.

Can patients with osteoporosis get chiropractic care? . . .

*Yes, of course. *When developing a care plan, if the Doctor can accept your case. He will consider the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many ways to adjust the joints of the body. The method selected will be best suited to your age, size and condition.

Is there always pain associated with back or neck problems? . . .

No, often times it goes unnoticed for a VERY long period of time. Some patients have had a disc problem for several years, and one day, pick up a pencil, or sneeze and cause the already manifested problem to become a severe injury. You will often hear of this as "throwing out your back".

Do Chiropractors treat infants or children? . . .

*Yes! *Most people think it is only for adults, but many times kids have experienced mild or severe traumas. Birth is often times very traumatic. Many times, the kid falls out of the crib, or tumbles and hits his head. These traumas (which at the time usually go unnoticed and without treatment) over a period of time can cause as much trouble as an adult getting in a car accident at 50 miles per hour. The Doctor will let you know, once he checks your kids, if they are candidates for chiropractic treatment.

Is it safe to get adjusted while pregnant? . . .

YES! Not only is chiropractic care completely safe during pregnancy, we highly encourage you to have Dr. Galjour on your birth team! See our “Expecting Mommas” page to learn more about prenatal chiropractic care.

What are the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy? . . .

Chiropractic helps support your body as it rapidly changes to grow and nurture your baby. When your pelvis is aligned, the muscles and ligaments surrounding your pelvis (round ligament pain) and uterus are balanced, and your nervous system is fully functioning, you will experience more comfort, connection with baby, and often times shorter/easier labor. We have helped many women transition into beautiful motherhood, and would love to help you.

What is the Webster Technique and how can it help me during my pregnancy? . . .

The Webster Technique is a specialized course offered through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment for the pelvis and surrounding ligaments. This technique helps facilitate the mother’s neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis and relieves any intrauterine constraint caused by torsion or tension. Webster technique during pregnancy can help allow more space for baby to grow and move into optimal position to prepare for the birth process.

With modern day schedules, stressors, and non-stop lifestyles, the average child is experiencing a greater deal of stress than ever before. This stress has undeniable effects on their nervous systems, which can lead to many health challenges. Many of our patients are being proactive and have their babies checked at birth, creating a healthy life from the start!
